Beth
MADT
Digital artwork

Response to reading-
Beth's pieces were created in response to ideas brought up in the reading by both Mark Dion and Alexis Rockman. Their works presented ideas about the preconceived notion that certain animal species are considered pests and threat to our urban environment. Animals such as mice, rats, crows, etc., are usually considered nuisances and filthy creatures that must be removed from the modern urban community.
Through the creation of digital depictions of animals native to the Calgary region, Beth has presented a reminder of sorts that though animals such as coyotes and hares are considered as almost an invasive species in out modern urban environments, though they are native to this area and were here first. We may consider them dirty, gross, or otherwise nasty, but they are more natural to this environment than we are.

Feedback-
I really enjoyed the ideas that Beth's works presented, never really having deeply considered them myself though I think they are very important to keep in mind. I'm pretty impressed that the digital paintings were did in Photoshop. My only question (though its not really a big issue) would be that: would a photographic representation of the animals in question work just as well.

Ursula
MADT
Audio Soundscape Proposal

Response to reading-
Ursula's proposed work is inspired by Mark Dion and Alan Sonfist. The ideas brought up in their piece where they created a enclosed environment around a dead and decaying tree inspired her to create her own ecosystem, though rather than a physical, living ecosystem, her idea proposes the creation of an invisible ecosystem of sound.
Ursula's proposal proposes the creation of a soundscape through a collaborative human effort. Individuals would create sounds, which would then be recorded and put together into a cohesive soundscape. An invisible ecosystem would be created through the creation of a soundscape, where each individual participant would have to work together with the others in an enclosed room and be part of the greater whole. Just like in an natural ecosystem, each individual/individual process would work together to create and support something larger than itself.

Feedback-
I really want to see this actually happen!
